SeaFloor is a response we developed as our first project in the Studio+ Design Bureau from a brief titled, “Fuck Plastic” that asked we find a use for the tons of plastic that are washed up on our coastlines. “seafloor” tiles are created purely from discarded high-density polyethylene and sand, with the aim of turning the problem of single use waste into a long lasting solution.
Each tile helps in the battle against single use plastics and the pollution of the ocean. The problem was flipped on its head and the uniqueness and variety of the waste was used as an advantage as we turned waste into a valued raw material.

One of the aims of SEAFLOOR was to reinvent the mundane to take something that already exists and re-imagine it in a different way, that's why we chose floor tiles.
tiles are just another piece of the background of the world like the pavement or brick walls or telegraph poles they are a semi-permanent fixture. SeaFloor tiles work to solve the problem single use plastic by creating a long lasting solution for a material designed to be long lasting. |
